Terms of Service

Stoic Habits is a daily Stoic practice app: a short morning and evening ritual, a small living world called the Stoa, and Senecai, an AI advisor grounded in public-domain Stoic texts.

Stoic Habits provides philosophical and educational practice tools. It is not medical care, therapy, counselling, or mental-health treatment of any kind, and it is not a substitute for any of them. Senecai is an AI feature, not a counsellor, clinician, or crisis service. If you are experiencing a mental-health crisis or emergency, contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services. Do not rely on the Service for medical, psychological, legal, or financial decisions.

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. You agree to provide accurate account information, keep your sign-in credentials secure, and not share your account with others. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at recoverykingsco@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised use.

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle (Paddle.com Inc. or Paddle Payments Ltd, depending on your location). Paddle is the merchant of record for all orders: when you buy a Stoic Habits subscription, your purchase contract is with Paddle, which then licenses the Service to you. Paddle handles payment processing, billing, taxes, receipts, and payment-related customer service, and Paddle’s name may appear on your bank statement.

Purchases are also subject to Paddle’s buyer terms, available at paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms. If those terms and these Terms conflict on a payment matter, Paddle’s buyer terms govern the payment.

Stoic Habits is sold as an auto-renewing subscription. Current prices are shown on our pricing page and at checkout. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually, depending on your plan) and the payment method on file is charged at the then-current rate. Founding Member subscriptions renew at the standard annual rate after the first year.

You can cancel at any time — through the link in your Paddle receipt email, from within the app once subscription management is available, or by emailing us. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep full access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not lock your reflections behind a paywall trick or punish you for leaving.

If we change subscription prices, the change applies from your next renewal and we will give you reasonable advance notice so you can cancel first.

New subscribers get a 7-day free trial with full access to the Service. A payment method may be required to start the trial. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are charged nothing. If you do not cancel, your paid subscription begins automatically when the trial ends. One free trial per person. Your very first session is free before any trial, with no payment details required.

We offer a 14-day refund window on purchases, processed by Paddle as merchant of record. The details are in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

When using the Service, you agree not to:

• break any applicable law or infringe anyone’s rights;
• probe, disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service or its security, or access it by automated means (scraping, bots) except through interfaces we provide;
• reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, models, or underlying prompts of the Service, including Senecai;
• misuse Senecai to generate unlawful, harmful, or abusive content, or attempt to bypass its safeguards;
• resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission; or
• share, sell, or transfer your account.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, after notice where reasonably practicable.

Your journal entries, reflections, and other content you create in the Service remain yours. You grant us a limited licence to host, store, process, and display that content solely to operate and provide the Service to you — including sending relevant content to our AI provider to power Senecai, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not claim ownership of your reflections and we do not use them for advertising.

The Service — including the Stoic Habits name, the Stoa world, the room designs, software, text, and visual design — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own personal practice. The classical Stoic texts that ground Senecai (such as Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, Seneca’s Letters, and Epictetus’ Discourses and Enchiridion) are in the public domain; our selection, presentation, and the Service built around them are not.

Senecai generates responses using artificial intelligence. AI-generated content can be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading, and may not reflect the views of the classical authors it draws on. Use your own judgement, and treat Senecai’s output as philosophical food for thought — never as professional advice of any kind.

Stoic Habits is under active development. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend the Service for maintenance. We will try to avoid breaking your practice, but we do not guarantee that any particular feature will remain available forever. If we discontinue the paid Service entirely, we will refund the unused portion of any prepaid period.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce any particular outcome in your life or habits.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the Service. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including any rights you have under the South African Consumer Protection Act or equivalent consumer-protection laws where you live.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over disputes arising from them — without depriving you of any mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will give you reasonable notice — by email or in the app — before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the current version.
